KABUL, Afghanistan — Iran’s embassy in Kabul announced its readiness to collaborate with the Taliban in combating terrorism.
The statement followed an armed attack on a Shiite mosque in Herat Province, which the Iranian embassy strongly condemned as a “terrorist incident.”
The embassy said Iran seeks to identify and punish those responsible for “this crime.” It added that Iran is prepared to strengthen cooperation with the Taliban in counterterrorism efforts.
Sources in Herat Province reported that the attack, which occurred during the Maghrib and Isha prayers at the Imam Zaman mosque in the Gozara District’s Andisheh town, resulted in seven deaths and more than ten injuries. Among the deceased were two women, one child, and four men.
The attackers managed to flee the scene, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the assault.
The Taliban have not commented on the incident.
