At least 20 people, including 11 children and five women, were killed in traffic accidents across Afghanistan over the past week, according to data compiled by Amu TV from incidents confirmed by Taliban.

The data shows that at least 43 others were injured in six reported accidents between May 30 and June 6.

The incidents occurred in the provinces of Laghman, Ghazni, Farah and Jawzjan.

The deadliest accident occurred in Laghman, where 18 people were killed and 35 injured in a single crash.

In Ghazni province, one person was killed and two others injured in two separate traffic accidents. In Jawzjan, six people were injured in two incidents, while another accident in Farah claimed one life.

Separately, six Afghan nationals were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Iran’s Semnan Province during the same period.

The figures include only accidents that were confirmed during the reporting period by Taliban or other reliable sources.

The findings come days after Taliban officials reported that more than 80 traffic accidents were recorded in four provinces during the Eid al-Adha holiday from May 27 to May 29.

According to Taliban authorities, those accidents occurred in Paktia, Ghazni, Kunar and Balkh provinces and resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries. They attributed the crashes primarily to reckless driving, speeding and violations of traffic regulations.

Traffic accidents remain one of the leading causes of accidental deaths in Afghanistan. Poor road conditions, inadequate traffic enforcement, unsafe vehicles and dangerous driving practices have contributed to a steady rise in fatalities and injuries across the country in recent years.
