Taliban’s deputy chief minister appointed as their refugees minister

Abdul Kabir, the Taliban’s deputy chief minister for political affairs, has been appointed as their new minister for refugees, according to a statement from the Taliban’s spokesman.

The appointment was made by order of the Taliban’s supreme leader, the spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said.

The appointment follows the death of the Taliban’s previous minister for refugees, Khalil Haqqani, who was killed in a bombing at the ministry’s headquarters in Kabul last month.

Kabir was appointed to the post in October 2021, two months after Taliban took over Kabul. He previously served as the Taliban’s acting prime minister from April 16, 2001, to November 13, 2001.

In May 2023, he temporarily assumed the role of Taliban’s acting chief minister due to the illness of the incumbent, Mohammad Hassan Akhund.
