At least 14 residents of Daikundi province were killed and four others injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen in the Khumi area of Ghor province in central Afghanistan on Thursday afternoon, according to a list shared by sources with Amu.
The victims were traveling from Sangtakht district in Daikundi to welcome pilgrims returning from Karbala when they were ambushed by the gunmen, sources said.
A list received by Amu named the fatalities as: “Nematullah, Ishaq, Dar Mohammad, Anwar, Awaz Mohammad, Ismat, Ibrahim, Hossien, Ali Mohammad, Noor Ali, Chaman, Ali Hossien, Abdul Manan and Mohammad Hassan.”
According to the list, the names of three wounded are Khan, Jawad and Gul Ahmad.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban has not commented on the incident. However, the citizens have expressed criticism towards the Taliban for being failed to provide their security.
They say that the perpetrators of the attacks are not being held accountable.
“These people are being slaughtered like sheep. There is no justice. If someone is arrested, they are labeled as Daesh. The motive behind these killings remains unclear, but those responsible should be brought to justice and executed,” a resident of Daikundi said in a voice recording sent to Amu.
