Gunmen storm mosque in Herat; at least seven killed, say sources

Sources report that a group of gunmen stormed the Imam Zaman Mosque in the Andisha township of Guzara district, Herat province in western Afghanistan, on Monday evening.

According to sources, at least seven people, including two women and a child, were killed in the attack.

Taliban said that six civilians were killed and one more was wounded in the attack.

Abdul Matin Qanay, spokesman for Taliban’s interior ministry, said that an “unidentified gunman” opened fire on the congregation with a Kalashnikov rifle at around 9 p.m. local time on Monday, April 29.

The attack occurred at the Imam Zaman mosque in the Andisha Township in Guzara district of Herat province, an area predominantly inhabited by the Shiites.
