Polio Free Afghanistan announced that a nationwide polio vaccination campaign will start Monday, April 29, across all provinces of the country.

The organization also said that vitamin A supplements will be distributed to children during this round of the campaign.

Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the only two countries worldwide still combating polio. In 2023, Afghanistan reported six cases of the disease.

The World Health Organization has previously expressed concerns about the potential for polio transmission from Pakistan to Afghanistan, particularly in light of the mass and forced expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan.
