US State Department denies reports of diplomatic return to Kabul

WASHINGTON — The U.S. State Department has denied reports regarding plans to resume consulate activities in Kabul.

“To be clear, the State Department’s position has not changed, and we have no near-term plans to return any diplomatic functions to Kabul,” a State Department spokesperson told Amu.

Earlier, Voice of America (VOA) reported that the United States is cautiously considering the reopening of a consulate in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, as detailed in a newly released State Department strategy document.
