Taliban dismisses women’s education and work discussions at UNSC, labels them ‘internal issues’

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Taliban dismissed the focus on women’s education and work during the United Nations Security Council meeting, referring to these issues as “minor internal matters.”

Taliban asserted that the meeting should have prioritized topics such as “security in Afghanistan, peace and stability, and economic development.”

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid released the statement, emphasizing the need for discussions on lifting sanctions and releasing frozen funds in Afghanistan.

Simultaneously, during the United Nations Security Council meeting, the British representative to the United Nations underscored that the “international recognition of the Taliban should not be up for consideration” and that “sanctions should remain in place.”

The meeting also witnessed criticism of the Taliban’s policies regarding women.
