Nangarhar win Afghanistan Grade 1 provincial cricket title

Nangarhar won the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Grade 1 Provincial Tournament after defeating Nangarhar-B by 124 runs in the final of one of the country’s top domestic cricket competitions.

Batting first, Nangarhar scored 269 runs in their allotted 45 overs, with Akbar Musazai top-scoring with 69, while Irshad Uddin Safi made 65 and Usman Noori added 62. Nasir Khan took three wickets for Nangarhar-B.

In reply, Nangarhar-B were bowled out for 144 in the 34th over, with Abid Mohammadi scoring 31. Ibrahim Kharotai and Usman Younas took three wickets each for the champions.

Musazai was named player of the match, while Paktika batsman Karamatullah finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 393 runs. Logar bowler Mohammadullah Logari was named best bowler with 12 wickets.

The annual tournament, organised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, featured 12 provincial teams and serves as a pathway for players into higher-level domestic competitions, including three-day and List A tournaments.

Organizers said a T20 version of the competition, using the same teams and players, will be held later this month as part of preparations for the national T20 Cup.
