Rain denies Afghanistan U19 victory in Tri-Nation Youth ODI opener

Rain forced the opening match of the Tri-Nation Youth ODI Series between Afghanistan Future Stars and Zimbabwe Under-19s to be abandoned without a result on Thursday, with Afghanistan on the verge of victory when play was halted.

Afghanistan were 68 for 1 in 9.2 overs, needing 23 more runs to win, when rain returned and brought an early end to the contest after multiple interruptions.

Earlier, Afghanistan’s bowlers had dismissed the hosts for 90 in 22.2 overs. Salam Khan led the attack with figures of 4 for 11, while Wahidullah Zadran claimed 3 for 6. Zaitullah Shaheen and Uzairullah Khan Niazi took one wicket each.

In the chase, Faisal Khan was unbeaten on 30, with Khalid Ahmadzai adding 14, before the weather intervened again.

Afghanistan Future Stars are next scheduled to face Pakistan Under-19s in their second match of the Tri-Nation Youth ODI Series on Saturday, Dec. 27, at the same venue.
