A former intelligence officer and a tribal elder have been killed in separate attacks in central Afghanistan, local sources said, the latest in a series of unexplained killings that have raised concerns about the safety of former government officials and community leaders under Taliban rule.
Local sources told Amu TV that Mohammad Ali Toofan, a former officer with Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Shahristan district of Daikundi Province. The motive for the killing and the identity of the attackers remain unknown.
