Strawberry production in Afghanistan increased by 9% this year compared to last year, according to figures released by the Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
The data show that 681 tons of strawberries were produced nationwide this year, up from 622 metric tons in the previous year.
According to statement from the ministry, in 2025, a total of 1,081 hectares of land in six provinces were cultivated with strawberries, with the highest yields reported in Balkh, Herat and Nangarhar provinces. Last year, only 575 hectares were planted with strawberries.
In addition to those provinces, the crop is also cultivated in Badakhshan, Panjshir and Daikundi.
The ministry said strawberries are considered a high-value agricultural product in Afghanistan and have seen expanding cultivation due to favorable climate conditions. The crop is said to be competitive in quality with imported varieties and has a strong domestic market.
