An eight-member mountaineering team in central Ghor province has successfully scaled the Band-e-Payin mountain range, local sports officials said Wednesday.
Organizers said the climbers reached 3,400 meters in a single day.
The expedition came shortly after the Diyar Sanayi mountaineering team climbed 3,300 meters in the Alam mountain range in Ghazni province’s Khwaja Omari district, according to the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee.
Organizers said such climbs are part of broader efforts to promote mountaineering in Afghanistan and to prepare athletes for future competitions.
