Second quake hits Kunar in a day

An earthquake struck parts of Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province Thursday afternoon, making it the second quake in the day, local sources said.

The tremor was felt at approximately 2:35 p.m. local time, according to witnesses in the area.

It followed another earthquake that had already shaken Kunar and neighboring Nangarhar earlier in the morning.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the latest quake.

This comes after Sunday’s earthquake in the province killed at least 1,457 people and destroyed thousands of homes.
