Pakistan sends 105 tons of aid to quake-hit eastern Afghanistan

Pakistan’s aid to quake-hit Kunar.

Pakistan has sent 105 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan following a devastating earthquake in the country’s eastern provinces, Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said Thursday.

Dar wrote on X that the aid was dispatched after a phone call with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. The shipment includes essential food items, medicine, tents, blankets and bedding for those affected.

He added that an earlier consignment of 35 trucks had already been sent from Peshawar to the quake-affected regions.

“Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan during this difficult time and reaffirms its commitment to supporting them in moments of need,” Dar said.

The 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck late Sunday, affecting the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan and Panjshir. Taliban officials reported heavy casualties and widespread destruction.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the death toll in Kunar alone has reached 1,457, with at least 3,394 people injured. He added that 6,782 homes were destroyed in the quake.
