WASHINGTON — As Israeli airstrikes intensify across Iran, President Donald Trump on Monday called on Iranian citizens to “immediately evacuate” the capital, Tehran, citing escalating threats in the region.
Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump reiterated his longstanding demand that Iran abandon its nuclear ambitions. “Simply stated: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I have said it over and over again,” the president wrote.
In the same message, he accused Iran’s leadership of missing a diplomatic opportunity. “Iran should have signed the agreement I offered them. What a shame. What a tragic loss of life,” he wrote, without elaborating on the contents of the proposed deal.
Trump’s remarks came hours after Israel’s military confirmed it had carried out new airstrikes on missile infrastructure in western Iran, marking a sharp escalation in a conflict that has entered its second week.
Iran has not disclosed the extent of the damage or the specific targets of the attacks. The Israeli Defense Forces have described their operations as preemptive strikes against strategic military assets.
The conflict, which began with an Israeli surprise offensive last Friday, has widened into a broader confrontation that officials in both countries have described as unprecedented in scale.
