Nine people were flogged in public in Kandahar on Tuesday on charges of robbery and sodomy.

Eyewitnesses said the event took place in the Ahmad Shah Stadium in the city of Kandahar.

Public floggings by the Taliban were suspended for three weeks, but sources said that punishment by flogging has continued by Taliban courts.

A number of Kandahar residents watched the flogging of at least nine people by the Taliban in the city of Kandahar on Jan. 17, 2023.

This was the first time public flogging has taken place in Kandahar in months.

So far, over 200 people have been flogged in public around the country by the Taliban after being convicted of different crimes.

This is a developing story.
