The European Union called for an immediate ceasefire between Pakistan and Taliban following a strike that reportedly hit a rehabilitation center, saying the two sides should fully respect international humanitarian law and return to dialogue.

In a joint statement, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and humanitarian commissioner Hadja Lahbib urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and resume dialogue.

“The strike on a medical facility in Kabul is another deadly escalation in a conflict that needs to end as soon as possible,” the statement said.

The EU stressed that civilian and medical facilities must never be targeted, noting that they are protected under international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions.

“All parties engaged in military operations have the obligation to respect these provisions under all circumstances,” the statement said.

The EU also called on both sides to take all feasible measures to minimize harm to civilians.

The statement comes amid escalating Taliban-Pakistan clashes, which have seen cross-border airstrikes and artillery fire in recent weeks.

The EU joined broader international calls for a ceasefire and renewed dialogue between Pakistan and Taliban, warning that continued violence risks further civilian casualties and regional instability.
