A new earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on Thursday night, killing one person and injuring at least 22 others in the provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar, according to local sources.
The quake caused panic in several areas, leading to injuries and structural damage. In Nangarhar, Taliban police spokesman Tayyeb Hamad confirmed that two people were injured.
In Kunar province, sources told Amu TV that a group of students at Sayed Jamaluddin University jumped from a dormitory building during the tremors, injuring 14 of them. All were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Elsewhere in Kunar, one person was killed when a house collapsed in Diwa Gul valley in Suki district, sources said. Six others were reportedly injured in Nurgal and Suki districts.
Local sources warned that the death toll in Kunar could rise, but Taliban officials have not yet commented on the incident.
The latest quake, which measured 6.1 in magnitude, struck just hours earlier and was felt across multiple provinces, including Kunar and Nangarhar.
Sources also reported that at least 30 houses were destroyed, and landslides blocked key roads connecting Nangarhar and Kunar.
