UN reports 42 security incidents targeting staff in Afghanistan

KABUL— The United Nations documented 42 security incidents affecting its personnel in Afghanistan between November 2024 and January 2025, including abductions, assaults, and threats of violence, according to a new U.N. report​.

The U.N. report detailed multiple threats to staff, including two abductions of family members of U.N. personnel, twelve cases of harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against staff, six arrests of U.N. personnel and three incidents of robbery and theft involving U.N. property.

A shooting incident on February 2, when a Taliban security officer positioned outside the U.N. compound in Kabul fired at an observation post, wounding a contracted international security guard. The alleged shooter was later found dead outside the compound​.
