Taliban continue building border posts despite clashes with Pakistan: Sources

KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban have continued to build border outposts in eastern Nangarhar province, despite ongoing clashes with Pakistani border forces and the continued closure of the Torkham crossing, local sources told Amu TV on Tuesday.

The construction has faced strong opposition from Pakistan, but the Taliban remain committed to expanding border infrastructure and establishing new checkpoints across Afghanistan, the sources said.

Taliban officials have framed the effort as a measure to strengthen border security and enhance territorial control. However, the projects have also drawn sharp reactions from Pakistani officials, further straining ties between the two sides.

The border tensions come as the Torkham crossing has remained closed for 14 days, with no official explanation for the shutdown. Hundreds of travelers and commercial trucks are stranded on both sides, disrupting trade and restricting civilian movement.

Eyewitnesses say the closure has inflicted heavy financial losses on traders, while passengers have urged authorities to resolve the standoff and restore normal transit to prevent further economic strain.
