Taliban say one killed in suicide attack at Ministry of Urban Development in Kabul

KABUL — Taliban officials said that preliminary findings indicate a suicide bomber attempted to enter the Taliban-run Ministry of Urban Development in Kabul but was intercepted and killed, leaving one person dead and three others wounded.

Mohammad Kamal Afghan, Taliban spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed the attack told Amu that a suicide bomber was killed by Taliban security forces before reaching his target.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior also confirmed the incident, describing it as a “suicide attack.”

The ministry’s compound is located in Kabul’s Police District 9, near the Third Makrorayan residential buildings and the Wazir Akbar Khan area.

Earlier reports suggested that the explosion occurred inside the ministry building, though Taliban officials did not provide further details.

The blast in Kabul comes two days after a suicide bombing outside a Kabul Bank branch in the northern city of Kunduz that according to sources, killed at least 25 people, mostly Taliban members. In another suicide bombing in December 2024 at the Ministry of Refugees in Kabul, Taliban’s refugees minister Khalil Haqqani was killed.
