Unidentified gunmen fatally shot a member of the Taliban in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab Province on Saturday, according to local sources.
The attack occurred in the Qara-e Kotal area of Almar District, near the highway connecting the provincial capital of Maimana to Almar, the sources said.
The victim, a resident of Almar District, was reportedly affiliated with the local Taliban administration. The Taliban have not issued an official statement regarding the killing.
Since regaining control of Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban have faced sporadic armed resistance in several regions. Groups such as the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front have claimed responsibility for multiple attacks targeting Taliban forces, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for Saturday’s incident.
