Taliban reported on Tuesday that three civilians were killed by Pakistani forces firing into Afghanistan, following an exchange of fire near the Torkham crossing where Taliban reportedly destroyed two Pakistani border posts.

Abdul Mateen Qanay, a spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, stated that the confrontation began when Pakistani border forces fired on Taliban positions in the Gorki area.

In retaliation, Taliban forces targeted and destroyed the two Pakistani posts, he said.

Qanay reported that three civilians, including a woman and two children, were killed during the exchange of fire.

The clash between Pakistani forces and the Taliban occurred on Monday, August 12, near the Torkham border crossing. Witnesses said gunfire continued to be heard from the area late into the day.

The border areas between the two countries have often witnessed heavy clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani forces over the past three years. The two sides have blamed each other for starting the fire.
