KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Supreme Court announced on Thursday that a woman in Kandahar was publicly flogged for “running away from home.”

In a statement, the Supreme Court said the woman received “39 lashes” and was also sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

The court also stated that two men in Maidan Wardak province were publicly flogged on charges of theft.

On Wednesday, the Taliban flogged a man and a woman for “inappropriate relations.”

Since taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban have resumed flogging and stoning as punishments, beginning in December 2022. The implementation of corporal punishment has been strongly criticized by the international community and human rights organizations.
