US envoy meets Uzbek officials in Washington to discuss Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — Thomas West, the U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan, announced on Sunday that he met with Abdulaziz Kamilov, Uzbekistan’s deputy chairman of the National Security Council, and Ismatullah Irgashev, his Uzbek counterpart, to discuss “the road ahead in Afghanistan”.

The meeting took place in Washington, West said on the social media platform X.

West noted that the discussions also covered “abundant shared interests” between the United States and Uzbekistan.

This meeting comes ahead of the third Doha summit on Afghanistan, scheduled to take place in less than three weeks.
