Gazans bury their dead after Israeli strike

Palestinians in Gaza’s Deir al-Balah buried their dead on Friday, May 24, a day after an Israeli strike on a store belonging to the welfare ministry killed several people, relatives and officials said.

On Thursday, Hamas media reported that 12 Palestinians were killed in the strike.

The number has since risen to 15, including children, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

The dead and wounded were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where prayers were held for those killed. One woman said her brother and his family of five were among the dead.

Israel launched its assault on Gaza following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israeli communities on Oct. 7 that killed 1,200 people and led to more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

Since then, Israel’s assault in Gaza has killed more than 35,000 people, with thousands more feared buried under the rubble, according to Gaza health authorities.
