Afghanistan to face India in FIFA World Cup qualifier

Afghanistan will meet India in another FIFA World Cup qualifier match following a 0-0 draw in their initial encounter.

The Indian men’s soccer team arrived in Guwahati today for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March 26.

Soccer enthusiasts gathered at the Guwahati airport on March 23 to welcome their heroes, as the team, led by Captain Sunil Chhetri, engaged with the media.

Meanwhile, the Assam Football Association (AFA) is rallying support for the Indian national team, known as the Blue Tigers, as they prepare for a pivotal match against Afghanistan. Set to occur at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on March 26, this match is a key event in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Joint Qualifiers Round 2.

AFA Secretary Sangrang Brahma, speaking at a press conference, shared his excitement about the match, highlighting its significance for Team India. Brahma called on the people of Guwahati, Assam, and the entire Northeast to unite in support of the national team, encouraging them to fill the stadium with blue, symbolizing their backing.

“We are all excited for the match. This is a critical qualifying match for India, and I’m confident it will be fiercely contested,” Brahma said. “I urge the people of Guwahati, Assam, and the Northeast to join us in supporting the Blue Tigers. Let’s demonstrate our passion for soccer to the world,” he added.
