Taliban earns over $25 million from passport distribution in two months

The Taliban said on Wednesday that their passport department has generated approximately 1.844 billion Afghanis ($25.9 million) over the course of two months, from Jan. 21 to March 11.

A spokesman for the department, quoted by Taliban-run national television, reported that 326,000 passports were issued during this period.

The announcement comes amid reports of extensive queues outside the passport office in Kabul last month, following the Taliban’s resumption of in-person passport services.

Citizens have expressed concerns that obtaining a passport has become a significant challenge.

The department continues to accept passport applications online.
