Art exhibition opens in Ghazni showcasing 500 paintings

A three-day art exhibition featuring 500 paintings opened in Ghazni on Sunday, bringing together works created with oil paints and pencil in an effort to promote visual arts in the province.

The exhibition, titled “Silent Painting,” was organized by the Taliban’s Directorate of Information and Culture in Ghazni in collaboration with the Artland Art Gallery and the Ariana Educational Center, according to a statement issued by the directorate.

Organizers said the exhibition aims to encourage artists and promote painting within Afghan society.

The displayed works include a range of paintings produced using pencil and oil-based media.

The directorate said it has recently organized similar cultural events, including a calligraphy exhibition held in cooperation with local artists, as part of efforts to support artistic activities in the province.

Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have imposed restrictions on several forms of artistic expression. While some cultural events continue under official oversight, many Afghan artists say they face growing limitations on their work and public exhibitions.
