Football fans in Kabul say they closely followed the Football World Cup, with many celebrating Spain’s championship victory while others expressed disappointment that Argentina fell short.
Residents interviewed by Amu TV said the final was among the tournament’s most memorable matches.
“I watched every match, especially the final between Spain and Argentina,” said Idris, a Kabul resident. “It was an exciting and entertaining game.”
Others said the tournament had kept fans engaged from start to finish.
“I watched the tournament, and there were many exciting matches,” said Milad, another resident. “The expanded format with 48 teams made the competition even more exciting.”
Many fans praised Spain’s performance throughout the tournament.
“I watched the final, and I’m a Spain supporter,” said Ahmad. “It was a great match, and I was very happy to see Spain win.”
Not everyone was satisfied with the outcome.
Ahmad Zamir, a Portugal supporter, said he had hoped his team would go further in the tournament.
“Portugal was eliminated, which was disappointing,” he said. “Spain is a strong team and deserved to win.”
Bilal, who supported Argentina, said he was saddened by the result despite enjoying the match.
“It was a very entertaining game, but I was disappointed because I wanted Argentina to win,” he said.
The tournament drew widespread attention among football fans in Afghanistan, where international competitions remain popular despite limited opportunities for domestic professional sport.
