Defending champions Amo Sharks opened the 11th edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Band-e-Amir Dragons on Wednesday, chasing down their target with 25 balls to spare.

Amo Sharks reached the 134-run target in 15.5 overs, losing just two wickets.

Imran Mir led the chase with 78 runs, while Abdul Malik remained unbeaten on 39, steering the Sharks to a comfortable win and a strong start to their title defense.

The victory came with more than four overs remaining, underlining the defending champions’ dominance in the tournament opener.

The match was played at the Rahmat Wali Masroor Cricket Ground in Khost province, where the 2026 Shpageeza Cricket League officially got underway earlier in the day with an opening ceremony.

The second match of the opening day was later delayed because of rain and lightning, the Afghanistan Cricket Board said. It added that a revised schedule would be announced later.

The Shpageeza Cricket League is Afghanistan’s premier domestic T20 competition and features five regional franchises competing for the 2026 title.
