Serbian Dejan Dedovic appointed as Afghanistan futsal coach

Afghanistan’s Football Federation has appointed Dejan Dedovic, a Serbian futsal coach, as the new head coach of the national futsal team, the federation announced on Wednesday.

The appointment comes as Afghanistan seeks to strengthen its futsal program following a series of international appearances in recent years.

Dedovic replaces Majid Rezaei of Iran, whose tenure ended in May after contract extension talks failed to produce an agreement. Rezaei led Afghanistan during the qualifiers and finals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.

The federation said Dedovic has signed a two-year contract and will oversee the national team’s technical staff, training programs and preparations for upcoming international competitions.

The agreement was signed in Kabul by Mohammad Nasir Rahmani, head of Afghanistan’s futsal committee, during a ceremony attended by federation officials.

The federation also announced a broader overhaul of the national team’s technical staff, bringing together coaches and specialists from several countries.

Under the new structure, Javad Asghari Moghadam of Iran has been appointed technical director, while Morteza Mansour Samaei, also from Iran, will serve as goalkeeping coach. Oriol Masana of Spain has been named assistant coach, Sadegh Amani of Iran will serve as fitness coach, and Joao Lira of Brazil has been appointed team analyst.

In addition, the federation renewed the contract of Mohammad Nasir Sedaqat, who serves as the team’s manager and supporter liaison, citing his role in the development of futsal in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan has emerged as one of the rising teams in Asian futsal in recent years, benefiting from increased investment in the sport and a growing number of players competing abroad. Federation officials said they hope the new coaching staff will help elevate the team’s standing at regional and international competitions.

“The presence of this experienced and specialized staff is an important step toward the growth and development of Afghan futsal,” the federation said in a statement.

This comes as women are banned forms all types of sports in Afghanistan.
