Floods in Herat kill two as heavy rains batter multiple provinces

Flooding in the western province of Herat has killed two people and caused property damage, local Taliban officials said, as heavy rains continue to affect large parts of the country.

The flooding also caused damage in Samangan province in the north, where homes and agricultural land were affected in parts of the provincial center and surrounding districts, the Taliban-run National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said.

A day earlier, the ANDMA reported that at least 17 people had been killed and 26 injured in floods and heavy rains across the country over a 24-hour period.

According to the agency, the flooding affected at least 13 provinces, including Parwan, Daikundi, Logar, Wardak, Farah, Herat, Ghor, Samangan, Faryab, Jawzjan, Badghis, Laghman and Sar-e Pol.

According to the ANDMA, 37 homes were completely destroyed and 10 shops were damaged. About 80 kilometers of roads and 140 acres of farmland were also affected.

In total, around 500 families were impacted, with some receiving emergency assistance.

The agency warned that rainfall was expected to continue, raising the risk of further flooding.

In Kabul, heavy rains in recent days have caused localized flooding, submerging parts of roads and disrupting traffic in some areas.
