Khost were crowned champions of the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Grade 1 Provincial T20 Tournament after defeating Khost-B by six wickets in the final on Friday.
The tournament, which began on Feb. 3 and was hosted by Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces, featured 12 teams. The final was held at the Najibullah Tarakai Cricket Ground in Nangarhar.
Khost and Khost-B advanced to the final after winning their respective semi-final matches.
In the first semi-final at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Cricket Ground in Nangarhar, Khost beat Domestic-XI 2 by 33 runs. Batting first, Khost posted 153 runs, with Younis Zadran scoring 40 and Abdullah Mohammadi adding 25. Domestic-XI 2 were bowled out for 119, despite 28 from Izat Farooqi and 26 by Ziauddin Sharifi.
Abdullah Mohammadi took four wickets for Khost and was named Player of the Match.
In the second semi-final at the Najibullah Tarakai Cricket Ground, Khost-B defeated Kabul-A by 11 runs. Khost-B set a target of 153, led by Saber Gurbaz’s 52 and Jamshed Khan’s 33. Kabul-A were all out for 141, with captain Asif Moosazai scoring 53.
Saber Gurbaz was named Player of the Match for his half-century.
In the final, Khost chased down Khost-B’s total to seal the title by six wickets, concluding the first edition of the provincial T20 tournament.
