Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by four wickets at U19 World Cup

Sri Lanka Under-19s beat Afghanistan Under-19s by four wickets on Monday in their Super Six match at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026.

Chasing 194 for victory, Sri Lanka reached 194 for six in 46.5 overs after Afghanistan were bowled out for 193 in 49.5 overs at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.

Osman Sadaat top-scored for Afghanistan with 61, while Azizullah Miakhil added 43 as the Asian side posted a competitive total after being put in to bat.

Sri Lanka’s reply was led by Senuja Wekunagoda, who made 43 off 79 balls, anchoring the chase as wickets fell at regular intervals. Afghanistan’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Rohullah Arab claiming 2 for 23, while Wahidullah Zadran and Khatir Stanikzai picked up one wicket each.

Despite late resistance from the Afghan attack, Sri Lanka held their nerve to cross the target with four wickets in hand.

The defeat leaves Afghanistan needing a strong result in their next Super Six fixture against Ireland Under-19s in Harare on Friday to keep their tournament hopes alive.
