As the deportation of migrants by Pakistan continues, figures by the Taliban’s commission for refugees show that 3,698 individuals returned to the country on Saturday, Dec. 27.
The commission said that a further 25 individuals were deported from Iran during the same period, most of them forcibly.
According to the commission, the returnees entered Afghanistan through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Bahramcha and Silk Bridge border crossings.
The latest figure follows the deportation of 2,613 individuals from Pakistan a day earlier, underscoring a sharp rise in returns in recent months.
Afghanistan has seen a surge in returnees as both Pakistan and Iran intensify efforts to expel migrants without legal residency, forcing large numbers of Afghans to leave.
UNICEF says more than 2.6 million people returned to Afghanistan in 2025 alone, many of them children. The UN agency has warned that returning families face shortages of basic supplies and worsening drought conditions.
