A national wrestling tournament featuring around 500 athletes from six provinces got under way in Kabul on Tuesday, organisers said.
The four-day competition is being held in the traditional Giro Giruman wrestling style and is aimed at identifying top performers for Afghanistan’s national wrestling team.
Athletes are competing across 10 weight categories, with bouts scheduled throughout the tournament.
Organisers said 40 wrestlers will be selected at the end of the event to join the national team.
