Afghanistan’s Under-17 national futsal team will face off against regional powerhouse Iran in the final of the 2025 Asian Youth Futsal Championship on Thursday evening in Bahrain.
The match is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Kabul time, with both teams arriving at the final in dominant form. Afghanistan advanced to the final after a commanding 9-1 victory over Thailand in the semifinals, while Iran defeated Uzbekistan 14-2 in their own semifinal clash.
The two teams have shown exceptional offensive power throughout the tournament. In four matches, Iran has scored 36 goals, while Afghanistan has netted 30. Defensively, Iran has conceded six goals and Afghanistan just four.
Tonight’s final will mark one of Afghanistan’s most significant appearances in an Asian youth-level competition, as the team seeks its first-ever regional futsal title.
Iran, which boasts one of the strongest futsal programs in Asia, is widely regarded as the favorite. However, Afghanistan’s young team has gained attention for its fluid attacking style and resilience.
The tournament, hosted in Bahrain, brings together emerging futsal talent from across the continent and serves as a stepping stone for youth players aiming to join senior national squads in the future.
