A national spear-throwing tournament in Ghazni province with nine teams from eight provinces taking part, the buzkashi and spear-throwing federation said.
Teams from Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Khost, Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Zabul and Ghazni are competing in the two-day event.
Organizers said the winning team will receive a car, while the runner-up will be awarded 20,000 afghanis ($295) and the third-place team will take home 10,000 afghanis ($145).

Spear-throwing is one of Afghanistan’s most popular traditional sports with deep cultural and historical roots. Riders compete on horseback, using long spears and specialized skills to strike designated targets.
The sport has long been featured at local festivals and national celebrations, and remains an important part of Afghanistan’s cultural and sporting identity.
