A number of Afghan migrants were shot and killed by Iranian border guards while trying to cross illegally into Iran, local sources said Friday.
According to people traveling with the group, a number of young men were killed in the incident and their bodies were left at the scene.
Some families later managed to bring the victims’ remains back into Afghanistan, the sources said.
Taliban have not commented, and Iranian officials have not issued any statement.
Many Afghans attempt irregular migration to Iran because of security issues, poverty and unemployment at home. The border between the two countries has repeatedly been the scene of clashes and deadly incidents.
