The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health has dismissed 17 doctors and medical staff, including both men and women, from the 100-bed hospital in Kabul’s Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood, local sources said on Wednesday.

The hospital, which serves a predominantly Hazara community, has struggled with limited support under Taliban rule, the sources said.

They added that the facility is now functioning only in a few departments, including general internal medicine, pediatrics and malnutrition, while other services remain disrupted.

The Ministry of Public Health has not publicly commented on the reported dismissals.

The dismissals come as Afghanistan’s already fragile health care system continues to face cuts in international aid, shortages of medicine and an exodus of medical professionals since the Taliban takeover in 2021.
