Local sources in Herat say Taliban have threatened residents of Andesha Township, one of the city’s largest residential areas, with forced eviction after declaring the land state property earlier this year.
The township, built about 20 years ago, is home to more than 10,000 families, most of them members of Hazaras, according to residents.
Sources told Amu TV that Taliban officials have handed over a Hazara cemetery inside the township to a private company. They said the company, led by a man from Kandahar province, began surveying the site last week.
Residents said the Taliban plan to replace the cemetery with an industrial complex. They added that the Taliban governor of Herat has already authorized the project.
Taliban have not commented publicly on the reported plan.
