India sending emergency aid to Afghanistan’s earthquake victims

India has begun delivering emergency humanitarian aid to victims of the deadly earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar said in a post on X that the aid includes 1,000 tents and 15 tons of food materials.

He said he had spoken with Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and conveyed India’s condolences.

“India has delivered 1,000 family tents today in Kabul. Fifteen tonnes of food material is also being immediately moved by the Indian Mission from Kabul to Kunar. Further relief material will be sent from India starting tomorrow,” he wrote.

He added that India “stands by Afghanistan at this difficult time” and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry in a statement said that Indian foreign minister informed Muttaqi during a phone call that the assistance would include 1,000 tents and 15 tons of food supplies.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier expressed condolences over the disaster and pledged support for those affected.
