Trump nominates Sergio Gor as special envoy for South and Central Asia

President Donald Trump on Friday announced he is promoting Sergio Gor, his longtime aide and current White House director of presidential personnel, to be the next US ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.

In a statement on his social media platform, Trump praised Gor as “a great friend” who has been at his side for years, crediting him with filling nearly 4,000 administration posts across federal agencies “in record time.” Trump said Gor will remain in his White House role until Senate confirmation.

“For the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump wrote. “Sergio will make an incredible ambassador.”

Gor’s background

Sergio Gor, born Sergey Gorokhovsky in Moscow in 1986, is an American businessman and political operative with deep ties to Republican politics. He graduated from George Washington University, where he was active in conservative groups, including College Republicans and Young America’s Foundation.

Gor worked on Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and later for the Republican National Committee. He served as spokesman for several Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Steve King, Michele Bachmann and Randy Forbes, before joining Sen. Rand Paul’s team in 2013, where he rose to deputy chief of staff.

In 2020, Gor joined the Trump orbit, first as chief of staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee, then as a consultant and publishing manager for Donald Trump Jr. He co-founded Winning Team Publishing in 2021, which published multiple books about Trump, including Our Journey Together and Letters to Trump.

Gor later served as senior adviser to MAGA Inc. and led the Right for America political action committee supporting Trump. In November 2024, Trump appointed him director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office.
