Haqqani discusses migrants in meeting with EU envoy

Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani met Saturday in Kabul with Veronica Boscovic Pohar, the European Union chargé d’affaires in Afghanistan, to discuss the situation of Afghan migrants abroad, according to the Taliban Interior Ministry.

The Taliban ministry said the talks also covered continued humanitarian and health assistance, preventing human and drug trafficking, creating job opportunities, and ensuring security. Cooperation on treatment and rehabilitation for drug addicts was also discussed.

The meeting comes as at least 2 million Afghans have been deported so far this year, many returning to a country facing widespread poverty, few job opportunities, and no education for girls beyond sixth grade.
