At least four people, including a woman, were killed and more than ten others wounded after Taliban forces opened fire during a protest in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, local sources told Amu TV on Monday.

The incident occurred in the district of Khash, where residents had gathered to protest against the presence and conduct of Taliban officials in the area. According to witnesses, the Taliban responded with force, using live ammunition to disperse the crowd.

“The Taliban used violence to break up the protest,” one local source said, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

Residents of Khash have threatened further unrest if the situation does not improve, warning they may set fire to local Taliban government offices.

In response, Taliban forces have reportedly deployed additional personnel to Khash in an effort to tighten control over the district. Roads and entry points into the area have been blocked, and sources described a heavy military presence and heightened tension.

Taliban have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

The incident is similar to that of clashes in Jurm and other parts of Badakhshan, which have happened after Taliban started poppy eradication campaign in the areas.

Another protest had happened in Khash District almost 10 days back.
