ANTALYA — Afghanistan is among nearly 100 nations participating in the 2025 Muay Thai World Championships, which kicked off this week in the Turkish coastal city of Antalya.
The event that continues until May 30, has drawn 633 athletes from around the globe. Afghanistan is represented by a four-member delegation: two athletes, one coach, and one international referee.
Salahuddin Saleh Mirzaei is competing in the 60-kilogram weight class, while Ghulam Nabi Mohammadi is entered in the 63.5-kilogram division.
The team is led by coach Samira Mohammadi. Isa Ahmadi, secretary general of the Afghanistan Muay Thai Federation, is serving as an International Technical Official (ITO) at the tournament.
Despite facing significant challenges at home, Afghanistan continues to maintain a presence in international sporting arenas, especially in martial arts, where its athletes have found success and support.
