The governor of Iran’s Kerman province, Mohammad Mehdi Fadakar, announced that school principals are prohibited from enrolling undocumented migrant students, warning that those who do so will face legal consequences.
“The enrollment of foreign nationals is being strictly monitored. School principals are not allowed to enroll undocumented migrants, and legal action will be taken if such cases are observed,” Fadakar said, according to the Iranian Mehr News Agency.
Most undocumented migrants in Iran are Afghan citizens. Afghan migrants have reported increasing pressure from the Iranian government, with some saying that even buying bread from local bakeries has become difficult. Many also face discrimination in the housing market, with landlords refusing to rent to them.
Additionally, a local attorney’s office in Kerman has reportedly banned the sale of bread to Afghan migrants, warning that violators will face serious penalties.
