Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan spin bowler, is set to return to competitive cricket for the first time since sustaining a back injury in November during the World Cup. Following surgery, Khan missed several T20 tournaments, including the Pakistan Super League and Afghanistan’s international matches.
Khan is fully recovered and will play for Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series against Ireland starting March 15 in Sharjah. His return is a boost for the Gujarat Titans ahead of the Indian Premier League season, which begins March 22. The Titans face the Mumbai Indians in their season opener on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
“I’m excited to represent my country again and look forward to contributing in the upcoming matches,” Khan said in a statement to the Afghanistan Cricket Board. “Training has been progressing well, and I aim to continue performing for my country.”
The IPL, preceding the T20 World Cup starting June 1, will serve as preparation for Khan and his teammates. “Most of our players participating in the IPL will benefit us for the World Cup. We’ll also stay connected with those not in the IPL to ensure we’re all working hard during this period,” Khan added.
